Buying a new/used compost tumbler is a decision that many of us face. Craigslist often lists used composters for sale. There are many compost tumblers out there and I have one of the newer ones available–the Sun-Mar 200 (as of Summer 2014 I don’t use it anymore. It stopped sending out the compost.) It is full of the “makings of compost” so I was thinking of buying another one. For years I have been eyeing the Compact Compost Tumbler. It seems that the mid-sized would be best for my needs. Their marketing is great and they say that you can get compost in 14 days. Some of the reviews on Amazon contest that claim. But composting has to have the right mix of greens and browns to work really well. So you don’t know if the people who wrote the reviews created the right mix for making compost in 14 days. II am excited to try out the new Compostumbler.
Some of the reviews on Amazon say that the Compostumbler rusts out easily. I kept thinking about it and was a little scared to try it because of this. So I called the company and they say they have a 5 year full replacement guarantee and that the life of the composter is 7-10 years. Well that guarantee sounds pretty good!
May 8th 2014–Update Compostumbler has been bought by a new company: Mantis. They now offer a 2 year guarantee.
The opportunity came up to buy a used one so I think this will be the perfect time to try a Compostumbler to see how they work! The warranty is not transferable but I can live with that.
The used Compostumbler was already sold so I will be buying a new one.
