I was just given a delightful gift of this touch and feel, pop-up and pull tab book about helping the earth. This book is for small children giving them an introduction to go green and to help the earth. I’m Not Too Little to Help the Earth starts by showing that it is not too early to start learning the lessons that everyone has a responsibility to keep our environment healthy. From separating aluminum, re-using paper, trading toys, turning off electricity and conserving water, this book presents these ideas in a fun format of pulling tabs, touchy feely and even some pop-ups. This book would make a marvelous gift to the young child in your life and at the same time introduce the concept of Going Green and helping our earth.
Grow Lights for Your Indoor Plants Helps Them Grow!
Using grow lights for indoor plants can make a big difference in your success in growing your own seedlings. I start my own seedlings every spring and have found that grow lights help them grow so much bigger and healthier than just the light from my sunny window.
Growing your own seedlings opens up so many more possiblities for the kind of plants that you can grow. Though, for many years I bought all my seedlings from a nursery and we still buy some depending on the year. Last year we bought pepper and eggplant seedlings.
It all depends on where you are in your gardening experience. If it seems too overwhelming or like too much work to start your own then you can always make a trip to the local nursery and have a great time picking and choosing what you want to grow. For beginner gardeners this is the way to go!
In the meantime if you are starting seeds indoors I want to suggest some options for grow lights. The easiest thing to do is to buy a full-spectrum desk light from Amazon or KMart. Just make sure the bulb is a full spectrum bulb meaning that it closely resembles sunlight. You can read more about my experiences using a full spectrum grow light.
Another option is to buy a special set up for plants. This will enable you to grow more plants than with just a desk lamp but it will cost a little more. This Jump Start Grow Light System will enable you to start lots of seedlings for your garden. This kit contains everything you need to get started except for the seeds.
Today I noticed these lovely snowdrops in the garden. Very beautiful, poking up through the garden debris. In some places there is still a little snow on the ground! It means that spring is not too far behind and we can start thinking about our gardens. It is definitely time to plant seeds indoors! Spring is coming the days are getting longer.
So I ordered Eva Purple Ball tomato seeds. They are resistant to Early Blight (Alternaria Solani). I learned that it is important to order disease-resistant tomato seeds, if you have early blight in your garden.
So I look forward to planting the seeds when they arrive. The seedlings can’t be planted outside for a while. They can get a good headstart in the house. Last year I used jiffy pots and the PotMaker to plant my seeds. Jiffy pots make planting seeds very easy. And the PotMaker is used to make free pots out of newspaper for the first transplanting.
