Garden Footwear–Shoes or Boots?

Garden Footwear-Which are Better Shoes or Boots?

When it comes to garden footwear, are boots or shoes better?  There is no question that you need some kind of garden footwear.  Shoes or boots get muddy so you don’t want to wear them in your house.  Though Gardeners Supply has a solution for muddy soles called Shoe-InsShoe-Ins can be slipped on over shoes or boots in the house in order to protect your floors from the mud.

I have experimented over the years with garden boots and garden shoes and I would like to share my experiences with you.

First I Used Old Running Shoes

The great thing about using old running shoes was that they were free and it didn’t matter if they got all dirty and muddy.  The negative was that they were a pain to take on and off and the dirt would drop into the shoes around my socks.

Always Fascinated by Gardening Clogs

I always loved the look of gardening clogs; they come in so many bright, beautiful colors.  And they seem so practical:  waterproof and easy to wash.  I had the same problem as with the shoes only worse.  The dirt collected in the clog around my feet whether I had socks on or not.  It was very aggravating and messy.

For Me Boots Are the Best SolutionGarden Footwear-Shoes or Boots

One day I saw the boots pictured on the right in a consignment store.  Brand new and very bright I thought these might be a good solution for my gardening days.  They are working out great.  These are the postives about garden boots:

  1. Slides on and off easily(I bought them one size bigger)
  2. High enough so no dirt gets in them
  3. Waterproof
  4. Easy to Clean
  5. Provides protection against snakes
  6. Attractive funky colors(if you don’t mind them getting abrased by the dirt)

The one negative about buying bright, funky patterned boots is that they do get scratched and worn from wearing them in the dirt.

Gardeners Supply Has Very Unique Boots

If you want some funky, colorful boots check out Gardener’s Wellies.  They sell Cosmos or Chicken designs.  Beautiful patterns and colors.  You will really stand out in the crowd.  These are really rain boots.  For me I would wear them in my garden even though they would get scratched and messed up.  For a real gardening boot, see Working Wellies a rugged gardening boot with a steel shank for support.  Click on any of the links above to go to Gardeners Supply and check out these great gift ideas!
